The children of Lougou, Haiti

We thought about the country of Haiti while we were studying our weather unit. We remembered the earthquake and had heard about their need for fresh water, from current events that were in the news. We learned about an organization that was working to provide water for the people in this community. It was an inspirational cause...  that fired us up to help the children. We asked lots of questions, observed pictures and applied what we had been learning. We discovered that our needs are different than theirs because of their community structure, values and climate. We want make a difference that would matter. These are the children who inspire us.

In one of the photos below, you will notice the children crossing a river, when the water is low. When the river floods, the children are not able to cross the river and attend school. There is a need in this community to build a bridge that spans this river, so the children will be able to get to school every day, regardless of whether or not it is the rainy season - and the river is flooded. It would be a great hope of ours that  our efforts may support education in this community through supporting the building of this bridge, as well.
